The Department of Commerce was established in 1969 and offers a comprehensive, contemporary, and multidisciplinary curriculum related to the field of Commerce. The goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to be competitive in a global economic environment. The Department has qualified faculty members with rich academic and research experience. It is currently a postgraduate and research department offering a PhD degree for both full-time and part-time candidates, as well as an M.Phil degree on a full-time basis. The programs offered by the Department are B.Com, M.Com., M.Phil., and Ph.D. The Department has been ranked among the top 10 Commerce Departments in the All India ranking of Commerce Colleges by surveys organized by ‘India Today,’ ‘The Week,’ and ‘The Outlook’. The faculty members in the Department of Commerce are actively involved in publishing research articles in books, international and national journals, and have also undertaken funded research projects from organizations such as UGC, UBCHEA, ICSSR, TNHSRP, CMDA, TNUHDB, etc. The curriculum of the Department of Commerce is regularly revised to keep up with the incredible changes in the business world. The syllabus of each course is aligned based on needs analysis from different stakeholders such as Corporates, Academic Institutions, Professional Bodies, and Students. The department also organizes different academic and co-curricular programs to enhance student learning. Student-led initiatives like the Commerce Forum enhance leadership and management skills through various activities. The Commerce Forum publishes an annual magazine called “C’BUZZ” which covers all the activities and programs organized by the Commerce Forum. The Business Ideation Club aids students in crafting business plans and becoming future entrepreneurs.
