Madras Christian College has taken an initiative to kindle ideations and innovations among the students. In order to encourage innovative ideas from students, share inputs from stake holders and provide directions for start-up enterprise, MCC-Entrepreneurship Development Cell formulated a forum called Ideation Club, in October 2020. It provides an avenue for the students to discuss, share, and interact among themselves and mentors pertaining to the above subject. Dissemination of information, creating awareness and encouraging the MCC student community to be part of the ideation club are the major agendas. Students as individuals or teams are provided an opportunity to present their proposals and objectives. The members of the group presently interact through WhatsApp, e-mails and virtual meetings due to pandemic, while in the future a physical space inside the campus will be provided for the student members of the ideation club. Phase-wise inclusion of student members from all departments/subject domains is being carried out to encourage ideation and innovation among the entire MCC student community.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Paul Wilson, addressed the ideation club students and shared his vision on creating an innovation ecosystem in the campus. Students later interacted with the Principal, which was followed by students’ presentations. Student presenters were Mugil Vanjinath (Journalism) and Gurukalyan (BBA), Anusha (English literature), Alan & team (BBA), Leah & team (BBA), Divya John & team (BBA), Tamil Udayan (Physics), and Vamsi Raju (Botany).
Identification of students’ ideation interests was carried out for pooling various resources and talents. In order to identify specific areas of interest/strength, facilitate with the inputs and to provide creative environment, an online survey was conducted. More than 150 students were part of the survey and the students’ interests were identified across 13 categories.
