Biography

Dr Rajadurai Vijay Solomon has been working as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in Madras Christian College since June 2016. He pursued the doctoral program at  Prof. Dr. P. Venuvanalingam’s Theoretical & Computational Chemistry laboratory, Bharathidasan University and worked on designing molecules for optoelectronic materials and halogen bonding in DNA base pairs. He received the prestigious Swiss Government Excellence Fellowship in 2012 to work with Prof. Markus Meuwly of University of Basel, Switzerland. In 2014, he joined Prof. Andreas Heyden’s group at University of South Carolina, USA as a postdoctoral associate to work on computational heterogeneous catalysis. He is a recipient of Early Career Research Award in 2018 by DST-SERB, India. In 2020, he received the MCC Alumni Research Publication Award in Sciences for his outstanding research publications. At present, his research group is focusing on computational modeling of organic ligands for nuclear waste management and optoelectronic applications in addition to cheminformatics & drug designing. He has published 78 research articles in reputed journals (till March 2023) and contributed to a book chapter. He is currently teaching physical chemistry for both under-graduate and postgraduate students and is guiding three PhD scholars. He is coordinating Madras Christian College Research Colloquium (MCCRC), a community learning platform of the college since 2020. In November 2021, he successfully completed Harvard BOK Higher Education Teaching Certificate online short course. He received the prestigious Shri. C. D. S. Chetti Excellence Award for Outstanding Professor of MCC (Male) for the year 2020-2021 in October 2022
