Biography

Dr. S. Franklin Daniel is Associate Professor and Chair of the English Department at the Madras Christian College; he joined the English Faculty in 1988. He specialises in Postcolonial Studies, Phonetics, British & American Literature, Shakespearean Studies, Stylistics, and Indian Writing in English. A former Visiting Fellow at Valparaiso University (USA) and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), Dr. Daniel has published extensively in UGC-CARE and peer-reviewed journals, with notable works including Critical Spectrum. He has edited over a dozen books, including Eclectic Representations and The Literary Mosaic. A recognised research supervisor, he has guided nearly a dozen PhD and over 50 MPhil scholars. He has served on Research Advisory Committees of five Universities, adjudicated theses across four Universities, and held academic leadership roles, including Chairman, Board of Examiners, Expert examiner for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and Member Board of Studies in many Colleges. As Placement Officer (2008–2013), he established industry-academic linkages with top MNCs. A sports enthusiast, he has been a long-standing member of the Sports Committee and Captain of the Staff Cricket Team, leading the College team to major victories.
