Established in 2024, the Office of the Extension Programmes plays a pivotal role in fulfilling one of the core values of MCC – ‘Social Relevance’. Various extension programmes are organised to benefit the students and the local community and to support the cause of the government and the local bodies. The expertise and resources of MCC are utilised to realise the Sustainable Development Goals and to help communities become self-reliant. As students actively participate in extension activities, they develop and gain skills (personal and professional), social and civic responsibility and become engaged citizens.

Part V Extension Activities under the CBCS curriculum
As per the CBCS curriculum, every undergraduate (UG) student must complete the mandatory hours of any one of the Part V extension units to earn one credit. The various Part V units of MCC are:
Service-Learning Programmes (SLP)
Service-learning is a teaching and learning approach which integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enhance learning, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. It goes beyond traditional volunteering by emphasising learning through direct engagement and reflection on the experience. MCCians serve & learn through the following SLPs
International Interdisciplinary Service-Learning Programme (IISLP)
In collaboration with the Office of International Programmes, the Office of Extension Programmes offers the International Interdisciplinary Service-Learning Programme (IISLP), intending to provide a social and cultural immersive experience for international students. As an outcome of the IISLP, an international student will
(1) Discuss the varied culture of India and compare and contrast it with its context
(2) Apply subject matter knowledge in real-life situations,
(3) Develop personal, interpersonal, leadership skills and global skills, and
(4) Demonstrate reflective practices.
The International Interdisciplinary Service – Learning experience can be customised based on the needs of the home institution/university, the discipline of study, duration of the service-learning experience, etc.
An international student, as part of his/her curriculum, can choose from any of the following:
An international student from any discipline can participate in this experience. It will include experiencing a new culture, visiting places of cultural and historical importance, exploring rural areas of Tamil Nadu, learning folk art, providing services for communities, learning global skills, and having some fun with their team.
2. Interdisciplinary Community-based Service-learning experience
An international student can relate community-based service experience to their course objectives using structured reflection and learning activities. This experience will provide opportunities for students to use newly acquired academic skills and knowledge in real-life situations in Indian communities.
3. Internship placements with nonprofits and NGO experience
An international student can do his/her internship/ practicum/ field exposure/ research in their respective area of interest/ academics. Students are placed in select non-profits or NGOs, working individually or in teams. They apply their knowledge and skills to complete their required hours of service

Engagement with Government offices relating to extension activities
The Office of Extension Programmes works with the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, Tribal Welfare Directorate of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Greater Chennai City Police, Cyber Crime Wing, Anti Narcotic, Swachh Bharat Mission, Tambaram Corporation, Tambaram Taluk Tahsildar Office, Council of Leather Exports, Government of India to implement their programmes and projects.
