Institute for Administrative Services Coaching was founded under the UGC XIth plan, merging schemes to impart skills required for competitive exams.
IASC was inaugurated by the Former Principal, Dr R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, on February 2nd 2012, at Selaiyur Hall to equip students for competitive exams and personality development by the changing scenario.
IASC was founded to cater to the needs of the students and to equip them for competitive exams. The first and foremost work was to begin two projects aided by the UGC XI-plan merged scheme. Free coaching classes are conducted for students from SC, ST, and OBC communities to guide them in preparing for government exams and eligibility tests for lectureship.
In the first year, around 300 students registered for this course. The institute has been adopting innovative techniques to coach students. Students are also trained for interviews by conducting mock interviews. These coaching classes were conducted every afternoon between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Selaiyur Hall. Later it moved to S219. The students are provided with reference books for competitive exams to collect information and gather notes for these exams. The Programme for the academic year 2011-12 ended with a valedictory function held at Margaret Hall. Dr Christudas Gandhi, IAS (Additional Chief Secretary-Govt. Of TN), gave the valedictory speech, which was truly inspiring and motivating for the students.
In the academic year 2012-13, IASC showed tremendous growth through its results and infrastructure. A mini library specially equipped with books for competitive exams was created in room S221, and classrooms were allotted for IASC classes in various places in the college, i.e., S219, Selaiyur Hall, and Heber Hall. A One-day seminar program was conducted with 3 IAS & 3 IFS officers to motivate the students and help them understand the difficulties in preparing for UPSC exams. As a result of innovative training methods, four students qualified for NET, six qualified for TNSET, and one cleared the IBPS Exam. UGC moved the scheme from the XIth plan to the XIIth in 2013.
Every year, around 200 students benefit from IASC. It helps the students to structuralize the essential preparation for the competitive exams. Since 2013, IASC has produced constant results in NET & SET exams. In 2015, 2 students got services in TNPSC with the help of our training. During the academic year 2017-18, 10 students from various departments cleared NET examinations.
IASC started as part of the 5year program under UGC schemes in 2012. However, it was extended multiple times.
Though the pandemic collapsed traditional education practices, IASC adapted to the situation and still functions with its online classes and webinars.
The IASC offers a coaching programme for UPSC recruitment examinations through the satellite programme of the MCC IAS Academy, Chetput. This programme is accessible through the following link
