Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) – Policy

The Deanery of Research and Development, Madras Christian College (MCC),  encourages all faculty members, research scholars and students to pursue translational research in line with Government initiatives to foster innovation leading to economic development. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are highly significant in protecting innovations so as to benefit all stakeholders involved in the creation of IPs. IPR covers various forms of protection, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, designs and trade secrets, each serving to protect different types of intellectual assets.

Academic institutions, in general, play an important role in the realm of Intellectual Property creation, both as creators of intellectual property and as centres for education and research. Madras Christian College ensures that a proper IP ecosystem is developed on the campus so as to attain high standards of research and innovation, file adequate numbers of IPs, and subsequently commercialize the IPs through technology transfer/licensing. MCC is committed to imparting knowledge and awareness of IPR to its faculty and students and providing end-to-end support to potential IPs in the filing process.

To ensure a smooth process of IP protection, MCC has approved the college IPR policy, which will provide a clear understanding of the entire process of IP filing. The policy outlines the understanding of different types of IPs such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs, and regulations related to filing, ownership and commercialization aspects. Through a proper policy, the institution can effectively leverage its IPs, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards while providing the fullest support to its faculty and students. The policy shall be reviewed and amended, if required, from time to time as per the requirements of the college and according to the Government regulations.
