Dr. Johanan Christian Prasana, a seasoned academic and administrator, graduated from MCC with a major in Physics in 1988, followed by a Master’s in 1990. His project was on ‘Nuclear Quadruple Moment’. He furthered his academic journey with an M.Phil. in 1992, focusing on ‘Ultrasonic Propagation in some High Polymers and Organic Liquids’, and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy for his work, “Ultrasonic Characterization of PBD, SBR, BR, EPDM and Their Blends in Toluene” by the University of Madras, through MCC, in 2003. His thesis was sent to MRF as his work mainly involves their rubbers. Because of his vast Administrative skills and Academic Knowledge, an international agency awarded him a DSc (Honoris Causa). His long and efficient academic journey helped him to become a Fellow of the Academy of Science, Chennai. He is a certified HRD trainer of AIM Insights, Mangalore.
Upon completing his Master’s Degree, Dr. Prasana joined Voorhees College, Vellore, in July 1990 as a Lecturer. His passion for education led him to Madras Christian College, Chennai, in November 1994, where he has been a dedicated mentor for over 33 years, guiding and shaping the academic journeys of numerous students.
His active involvement in research and academics for over 34 years led him to publish and present more than 130 papers in various national/international journals and national/international conferences. He has guided around 100 students at PG, MPhil and PhD levels. He is also a reviewer of various scientific multidisciplinary journals and a board member in various journals, which include an oncology journal. He has published an official patent journal on Molecular Modeling to identify a pharmaceutically active drug. He is recognised as a guide by the University of Madras, Chennai, to supervise students at MPhil and PhD levels. ARUNAI awarded him the Life Time Achievement Award. He is placed in the top 0.5% of all scholars worldwide, with rank #17 in Quantum Mechanics (Field – Physical Sciences and Mathematics; Discipline – Physics) by Scholar GPS.
He has held various administrative positions such as a member of the sports committee, member of the MCC School Committee, Associate Coordinator of Examinations, Associate Coordinator of R and D cell, Convenor of Value Education, Coordinator of the Physics Department (Self Financed Stream), Convenor of Audio Visual Education, Admissions Officer, Warden, Nodal Officer for the College ERP software, etc., His rich administrative expertise helped him strengthen the financial status of all the units he was heading.
Apart from academic and administrative experiences, he was involved in sports and social activities at the college. He was a member of the college cricket team as a student and faculty member. He is a member of Gideon’s International in India. He has a few international visits to his credit.
