Dr. E. Iyyappan has been teaching chemistry since 2001 and his academic expertise includes fields such as physical organic chemistry, organic reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry and natural products. His research interests are mainly in the synthesis of the nanomaterials for application in the fields of electrochemical sensing and catalysis. He had successfully completed a UGC-SERO project entitled “Synthesis and characterization of nanoscale hydroxyapatite particles using triton X-100 via hydrothermal/ultrasonication assisted routes”. His research article “Nanoscale hydroxyapatite for electrochemical sensing of uric acid: Roles of mesopore volume and surface acidity” has been published in ACS Applied Nanomaterials during the year 2020 (Impact Factor: 5.097).
Under his leadership, the department has continued to rise both in academic and in research activities with a proper balance. At the department level he had formalized the Mentor-Mentee system to cater the needs of students. He is instrumental in conceptualizing the idea of summer internship on skill development for chemistry students. He is a life member in professional bodies such as Association of Chemistry Teachers -TIFR, Mumbai and Society for Advancement of Chemical Sciences and Education, IGCAR, Kalpakkam.
