 AQUAPONICS AND AQUASCAPING (Semester-I)
Description:

This course introduces students to sustainable food production in aquatic systems and the art of gardening in aquarium environments. It also provides a comprehensive understanding of aquaponics, integrating aquaculture (fish culture) and hydroponics (soilless plant cultivation) into a mutually beneficial ecosystem. Students will learn the structure and functioning of aquaponic systems, including fish tanks, grow beds, water circulation units, biofilters, and the role of microorganisms in nutrient cycling.

Different aquaponic models such as media-based, Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), Deep Water Culture (DWC) and vertical systems, along with water quality, feed, and disease management, are covered. The aquascaping component focuses on the principles and styles of aquarium landscape design, fostering creativity and aesthetic appreciation. Additionally, the course explores the economics, entrepreneurship opportunities, marketing strategies, and government support available for aquaponics ventures. This course equips students with practical knowledge and innovative skills for alternate livelihood.

NUTRITION AND WELL-BEING (Semester-II)

This course introduces the fundamental principles of nutrition and their significance in  maintaining health and well-being across different stages of life. It provides an overview of key concepts such as nutrition, malnutrition, health, Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), dietary guidelines, and energy balance. Students will gain knowledge of macronutrients and micronutrients, including their functions, dietary sources, digestion, absorption, metabolism, and deficiency disorders. The course further examines the nutritional requirements associated with growth and development, with special emphasis on critical life stages such as puberty, pregnancy, lactation, and menopause. It explores the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of common health conditions, including diabetes mellitus, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hypertension, thyroid disorders, arthritis, anemia, cancer, and dyslipidemia (cholesterol-related disorders).
