SDG 3- GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations, represent a comprehensive framework of 17 interconnected goals for addressing pressing global challenges and advancing human development in a sustainable manner. Encompassing critical areas such as poverty eradication, quality education, gender equality, and peace and justice, the goals serve as a roadmap for collective action, mobilizing governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals worldwide to work together towards achieving a more prosperous and equitable world by 2030. The initiative spearheaded by the Deanery, Research and Development, Madras Christian College entails the publication of 17 books, with each dedicated to a specific SDG theme.  As the SDG goals are inherently interconnected, this initiative aims to cultivate an interdisciplinary research culture at MCC that transcends disciplinary boundaries, recognizing the inherent synergy between various academic disciplines. By encouraging collaboration among faculties, research scholars, and students from diverse departments as authors and editors, this inclusive approach not only enhances the substance of the books but also embodies the ethos of interdisciplinary cooperation essential for effectively addressing complex global challenges. The Deanery envisions this initiative as a catalyst for fostering an interdisciplinary research culture within the institution, promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration and acknowledging the inherent connections between different academic fields.

The publication titled "Heal The World," focusing on SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being, recognizes the critical importance of ensuring access to healthcare services and promoting well-being for all. SDG 3 emphasizes the urgency of achieving universal health coverage, including access to essential medicines and vaccines, and reducing the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. It acknowledges that good health is not merely the absence of disease but encompasses physical, mental, and social well-being. Achieving this goal requires addressing various determinants of health, including poverty, inequality, inadequate sanitation, and environmental pollution. The editors of this publication, Dr. Rachel Jacob, Ms. Jasmine Smilkha Leslie, and Ms. Soundarya Uppili, bring their expertise to explore strategies for improving health outcomes and fostering well-being globally. Their collaborative efforts underscore the importance of holistic approaches to health, advocating for preventive healthcare, health education, and equitable access to healthcare services for all individuals and communities.

In the complex terrain of the 21st century, the pursuit of sustainable development is paramount on a global scale. Amidst myriad challenges, maintaining good health remains fundamental to human resilience and adaptability. The world leaders in 2015, embraced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), uniting to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and promote prosperity. Among the SDGs, SDG3 focuses on "Good Health and Well-being," a cornerstone of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.  This book on SDG3, titled ‘Heal the World: A Journey Through Good Health and Well-being,’ is inspired by Michael Jackson’s timeless anthem, underscoring the enduring relevance of its message amidst ongoing global trials. This book delves into its complexities, initiatives, and the vital link between sustainability and health, aiming to spark dialogue and collaboration for a healthier, fairer, and sustainable future.
