Staff Study Circle Report for Newsletter

The Staff Study Circle meets every month to discuss and deliberate on issues that are relevant to the Institution and the faculty.  A “Conservation of Cultural Heritage” Series was initiated in 2021 to address the issues and challenges that the institution faces in sustaining the culture that shapes and brands the College.  The Staff Study Circle continues the series of talks for this academic year too to gain insights into different perspectives of Culture in MCC.

Culture as Conversation:  Inventing a Nursery of Citizens

The first Staff Study Circle for the academic year 2022 – 2023 met on 27th July 2022 in the Anderson Hall.  The guest speaker was Dr Moses O Manohar, Executive Director, Inter Church Service Association. He spoke on the topic “ Culture as Conversation:  Inventing a Nursery of Citizens.  The program was hosted by the Principal.  He spoke on the culture, the History of India and the path ahead for a College as Madras Christian College. 

Culture and Elements of Value – Essential Drivers of Innovation

On 11th August 2022, the Staff Study Circle met in the Anderson Hall.  The guest speaker was Dr Abraham Santhosh Philip, Senior Vice President, Digital and Innovation, Cyber Security, Veolia Asia.  The program was hosted by Prof Smile Ross, Department of Philosophy.   He spoke on the topic “Culture and Elements of Value – Essential Drivers of Innovation”.  The discussion revolved around personal and professional insights on how the culture that the individual is exposed to, be it during the formative years or during the education process or in corporate organizations will make or break innovation.  He also spoke on the importance of the elements of value and how by unlocking it innovation can be more relevant today.

DR.  DEVANESEN CENTRE FOR HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

 

  1. The centre for HRD conducted a skill development Seminar as part of the orientation programme for the II UG students (Aided stream) undergoing Personality Development classes on the topic “Unravel Your Potential” . The event took place on the 20th July 2022 in the Anderson Hall from 11.40 am to 1.30 pm. Mr. Melwyn Jonathan, Life coach, HR mentor, operational head Chosen Generation, Dubai was the chief guest for the event. Nearly Five hundred students benefitted through the inspiring talk.
  2. HRD centre conducted a Seminar for the II year Post Graduate students undergoing Softskills programme on the topic “Campus to Corporate – Success Path” the event took place on the 21st July 2022 in the Anderson Hall from 11.40 am to 1.30 pm. The speaker for the event was Mr. Premnath Divien, Chief Revenue Officer, Talent Matrix. Nearly three hundred benefitted through the talk.
  3. An Industry Academia Interaction (IAI) was initiated by the Dr. Devanesen Centre for Human Resource Development on 26th July 2022 with the IBU head, delivery Heads and RMG head from Tech Mahindra along with the Principal of MCC and officials of the college along with faculty from related departments in the council room. The deliberations lead to collaborative multi connect programme i). Empanel MCC for placement drive ii). Orient Salesforce CRM knowledge and provide Knowledge transfer (KT) to the BCA, MCA and BSc. Computer Science faculty. Iii). Introduce Salesforce free Certification programme to the students through Trial Head Learning portals to get them employable on completion of the course iv). Explored possibility to include Salesforce CRM as part of curriculum. v). Explored possibility for CSR drive along with MCCMRF innovation park.
  4.  HRD centre in collaboration with Tech Mahindra conducted a Skill development Seminar on “Career in IT- SAAS & SALESFORCE as Accelerators” on 26th July 2022 from 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm. for the students undergoing Personality development programme. Mr. Sunil Jayaram, Global Head, Tech Mahindra was the chief guest. The students had a time of interaction with the team from Tech Mahindra including the HR and  Delivery Heads of Tech Mahindra. Nearly 650 students benefitted through this session.
