“I have spoken….. That your joy may be full” (Jn .15:11)

What does the Bible – the word of God mean to each one of us? The Bible, a collection of many authors over an extended period of time, is not a mere guidebook or just ideas gathered about God nor is it an old dead letter. The Bible is the very word of God- Gods own word given to us in words of men. “No prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Pet.1:21)

God’s infinite power flows to us through His word for the word of God contains His power. When God said, “Let there be light” (Gen 1:14) in the beginning, the thickest of darkness was dispelled from the face of the earth. When Jesus said, “Be calm” (Mt.8:26), the roaring seas and the raging waves instantly quietened to a gentle ripple at the feet of the Lord. When Jesus said, “Lazarus, come out!” (Jn.11:43), the power of the word entered into the dead body and gave life! And Lazarus walked out of the tomb – a living man. This is the power of the word of God, a power that can change our lives- comforting us in our most bitter moments, and even converting the most sin hardened lives.

“Is not my word like fire, says the Lord, and like hammer which breaks the rock in pieces?”(Jer.23:29).
