  • Botany Society and P.G Club were inaugurated on 29th August 2011. Dr. C. K. Sreedharan, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Tamil Nadu, delivered the inaugural address.
  • Dr. D. Narasimhan was awarded Prof. V. V. Sivarajan Gold Medal for his valuable contribution in the field of Angiosperm taxonomy in India in the XIX Annual Conference of Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy & International Symposium on "Angiosperm Systematics & Phylogeny: Retrospects and Prospects" held at NCBE, Lucknow. He delivered the medal lecture on the topic 'Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests: An Endangered Forest Type'.  
  • PG Botany Club, which is clebrating 50th year of its inception, was inaugurated on 12th August 2010. Dr. K. Selvaraj, former Professor of Botany delivered the inaugural address. A tribute was made to Dr. Keshav Bhat, founder of PG Botany Club.
  • D. Narasimhan, W. Arisdason and Leslie Lawrence authored a book, Tree Census in Raj Bhavan, Guindy, which was released by His excellency Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu on 15th August 2010. M. Alister, M. Anantha Lakshmi, S. Shalini and A. Nithaniyal Stalin, students in the department, also contributed to the tree census.
  • Five postgraduate students from the Department of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology attended the international conference on “Eliminating Hunger and Poverty: Priorities in Global Agricultural Research and Development Agenda in an Era of Climate Change and Rising Food Prices” at M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundtion, Chennai from 7-9th August 2010.
  • Students of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology participated in “Madulika-Intercollegiate Competition” organized by Department of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology, S.D.N.B Vaishnav College, Chromepet and won 1st prize in dry flower arrangements and crossword competition and 2nd prize in Bio-lyrics and overall 3rd place in Madulika 2010.
  • 55 students from Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation School, Chennai visited the Department of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology for a Tree Survey in MCC campus on 17th July 2010.
  • students from Govt. A.D.W School, Kolappancheri, Chennai visited the Department of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology and Campus to learn about medicinal plants on 13th August 2010.
