The Department of Physics was started in the year 2003 as part of the self-financed stream of MCC. The Department now offers 3 year B.Sc. (Physics) degree programme under choice based credit system.

With an increasingly knowledge based economy and the perennial need for qualified manpower in pure science in general and Physics in particular, there is a vast opportunity for Physics graduates. Besides teaching career in schools and technical institutions, Physics graduates can look forward to a fruitful career in Research and Development and in some sectors of the knowledge based new economy. As a department, we believe in the overall development of the students-from academics to spiritual, so that the student may be able to succeed in all spheres of life.

Programmes Offered

The Department offers a 3 year B.Sc. Physics degree programme under Choice Based Credit System.

Course Structure & Curriculum:

The Department goals are translated into the academic programs by conducting intercollegiate events, seminar, symposium etc. The Department follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) allotting credits for theory (six hours/ week) and practical work (four hours per week). Almost 70% of the course material focuses on experimental learning for overall development of students. The board of studies consists of 3 externals, 1 internal and 3 student representatives. The externals include university nominee and two subject experts.

The Course syllabi are revised periodically once in 3 years depending upon feedbacks and advices from students as well as external experts (latest revision in 2013).

The 3rd year students will be doing their project work in the 6th semester.

Practicals & Project work:

Department of Physics is provided with upgraded laboratory facilities for Physics students. Students are given hands on training in General Physics, Optics and Electricity and Electronics experiments. Practical sessions are allotted as per the credits given to the students in each year. Project work (2 credits) for the final year UG students is a compulsory component which helps them to gain research knowledge and paving the way for research in future.
