AUTONOMY Our college was granted AUTONOMY in July 1978. This, in practice, has meant the introduction of new courses, curricular innovations and examination reforms. Emphasis on work with practical orientation and methods of learning including projects and seminars has made education more meaningful and contemporary. The college now has twenty-nine University related academic departments offering undergraduate and/or post graduate courses. Many of the departments also offer research degrees through M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. Among other programmes introduced during the period of autonomy are diploma and certificate courses offered through the School of Continuing Education. Vocational degree courses are offered in the departments of History, Zoology and Commerce. The students opting for them have the advantage of studying ALL CORE subjects like regular students. The vocational courses reflect an industry-institution tie-up and are employment oriented with provision for higher education. Vocational training in business / industry / institutions is built into the curriculum. The success of autonomy resulted in our College being awarded the grade A+ (90-95%) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in January 2004. | UNDER GRADUATE PROGRAMME | | B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com (6 SEMESTERS) | | Part I | Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kanada, Hindi, Sanskrit, French, German. | | Part II | English | | | | | B.A | Major | B.Sc | Major | | Group | | Group | | | (i) | History | (i) | Mathematics | | (ii) | Political Science | (ii) | Statistics | | (iv) | Economics | (iii) | Physics | | (vi) | Philosophy | (iv) | Chemistry | | (xii-a) | Tamil Literature | (v-a) | Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology | | (xii-b) | English Literature | (vi) | Zoology | | | | | | | B.Com.
