In association withIndian Society for Comparative Endocrinology

It is our great pleasure and privilege to announce that the International Symposium on Recent Advances in Comparative Endocrinology is being organized in Madras Christian College in association with Indian Society for Comparative Endocrinology in Chennai, India during November 29 to December 1, 2017.

Madras Christian College (Autonomous) is a well known academic centre in south India and it hold the status of UGC – College for Potential for Excellence. It ranked within top 10 colleges in India. MCC traces its origin from 1837 and raised many leaders and eminent personalities. MCC is serving the society with a motive of academic excellence, spiritual vitality and social relevance. The Department of Zoology is a pioneering centre in South India to evolve the strong foundation in Applied and Economic Entomology, Animal Behaviour, Environmental studies, Taxonomy and Endocrinology. The Department has been recognized by various funding agencies include DST-FIST, MoES, CSIR, UGC, DBT, UBCHEA, InterNICHE, ICAR and MoEF.

Indian Society for Comparative Endocrinology (ISCE) is the member of International Federation of Comparative Endocrinology Societies (IFCES)with members of scientists and research workers in the field of comparative Endorcinology.  ISCE organizes the regular meeting of scientists and workshops for young researchers once in every two years. It gives a unique platform to encourage, identify and recognize the achievements of Indian researchers. More particularly, the youngsters are given opportunity to present their work and to interact with senior scientists to find new ideas. Earlier meetings were noteworthy to mention its contribution to the field of comparative endocrinology.

We, the Department of Zoology welcome you to participate in the significant international event to be held Madras Christian College, Chennai.

Themes and Scientific Sessions:

Comparative Endocrinology in 21st Century

“Hormones coordinate physiology and behaviour of populations of organisms, and thus play key roles in determining the structure of populations, communities, and ecosystems. The field of endocrinology is concerned with the study of hormones and their actions. The field is rooted in the comparative study of hormones in diverse species, which has provided the foundation for the modern fields of evolutionary, environmental, and biomedical endocrinology. Comparative endocrinologists work at the cutting edge of the life sciences. They identify new hormones, hormone receptors and mechanisms of hormone action applicable to diverse species, including humans; study the impact of habitat destruction, pollution, and climatic change on populations of organisms; establish novel model systems for studying hormones and their functions; and their functions; and develop new genetic strains and husbandry practices for efficient production of animal protein. While the model system approach has dominated biomedical research in recent years, and has provided extraordinary insight into many basic cellular and molecular processes, this approach is limited to investigating a small minority of organisms. Animals exhibit tremendous diversity in form and function, life-history strategies, and responses to the environment. A major challenge for life scientists in the 21st Century is to understand how a changing environment impacts all life on earth. A full understanding of the capabilities of organisms to respond to environmental variation, and the resilience of organisms challenged by environmental changes and extremes, is necessary for understanding the impact of pollution and climatic change on the viability of populations.”......Robert et al., 2009
