Dr. A. Sylvia Daisy, M.A, M. Phil, Ph. D., SLET, UGC- NET
Dr. A. Sylvia Daisy is a Community Development Specialist. She earned her B.A. Degree in Psychology from Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed Women’s College. She pursued her M.A. and M.Phil Degree in Social Work Discipline at Stella Maris College. Her Doctoral Research was on Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment at Bishop Heber College affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Trichy. Teaching being her passion she has gained eighteen years of teaching experience in three different institutions located at Chennai, namely Nava Nirmana Social Institute, Stella Maris College and Madras Christian College. Family and Child Welfare Human Rights, NGO Management and Entrepreneurship are her areas of interest. She has presented more than 25 papers in National and International Conferences. Her visit to Catholic University, Belgium for research paper presentation on “Social Entrepreneurship” in July 2017 was sponsored by University Grants Commission. She presented her paper on “Life Skills and Health” at Joint World Conference organized by IFSW, IAASW and ICSW in July 2012. She has Published 20 papers in ISSN and ISBN Books and Research Journals. The book titled “Marriage and Family” with ISBN is the outcome of her experience in the area of Family and Child Counseling. She has been the Guest Editor for the Journal Social Work and Management. She held the post of Vice President in the Professional Social Workers Association, Chennai from 2011- 2017. She represented the Association in APASWE meeting at Joint World Conference at Sweden in July 2012 and had been instrumental in the formation of Federation of Professional Social Workers in India. She is the Board Member of Common Wealth Organization for Social Work since July, 2012 which is into policy level changes for promoting Social Work in Common Wealth Countries. She is sincerely involved in Rural Job Creation being the Steering Committee Member- South Zone, Confederation of Indian Industry since July 2018. She is a well known Resource Person for Seminars and Workshops on “Social Analysis” and “Family Counseling”. She has addressed hundreds of teaching and administrative staff members on “Adolescent Psychology”. She is a trainer for “Marriage Preparatory Course” conducted by Diocesan Family Commission Chengelpet since 2009 and has addressed thousands of youngsters on “Conjugal Harmony and Successful Family”. Being the Executive Committee member of “Anbagam” she renders voluntary service for the empowerment of the weak and vulnerable sections of society. Her services during Chennai Floods 2015 and Vardha Cyclone 2016 and Child Nutrition Project 2018 in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur Districts are significant.
